About & Why I Started Insight OA
My career began in family law, mediation, and HR. Along the way to becoming a certified mediator, I decided to return to school to study Conflict Resolution. This is where I first discovered the world of ombudsing, and in my experience working alongside the Student Ombuds as a Research Assistant, something clicked.
Conflict work feels like magic to me. Where tension creates misalignment, discord, and stress, its transformation can catalyze connection, clarity, and understanding. This is the work that ombuds do every day, and I became deeply motivated to support that work however I can.
University ombuds offices have grown rapidly across the US in recent years, and many are still finding their footing. These offices might be brand new, set up on a trial basis, and/or led by people who are well-trusted within their institutions but learning the role for the first time. These ombuds are simultaneously trying to educate an entire campus on what an ombuds even is, managing growing caseloads, building partner relationships, tracking issues, and proving their value to leadership... all at once, and often alone.
I bring experience in strategic planning, systems improvement, and people-centered data analysis. While I am newer to the ombuds world, these skills translate, and Insight OA is my way of contributing something practical and meaningful to offices that are doing important work, often without enough support.
